Clouding.io recently launched its new API REST. The API takes off a ton of workload off your shoulders if you’re in the cloud management buisiness or just have a serious personal project.
It’s actually one of the most well-documented APIs I’ve seen in the recent times. Of course we will discuss more of it later in this piece. We’ll be discussing the API features, capabilities, limitations, use-cases and everything else.
If you’re already using Clouding.io or need a new VPS solution that lets you manage your application/project with lesser manual intervention, this piece is just for you.

What Clouding.io API is capable of
If you’re on this article, you clearly have at least a basic idea as far as APIs and their primary capabilities go. Clouding.io is no different. The API basically lets you:
- Start/stop or restart servers
- Manage firewall rules
- Configure DNS
- Create / Manage backups
- Manage snapshots
- CORS compatible (accept requests from different sources).
- And a lot more.
You can automate your cloud infrastructure management through a secure interface and connect it to third-party apps out there. A great time, energy and even cost-saver to an extent, wouldn’t you agree?
Some common use cases for the Clouding.io API
While there’s no limit to what’s possible, a few use-cases can still be discussed that I see being used the most frequently.
It can auto-deploy a server when a new user signs up! Software applications could be automated. It could even be used to monitor the health and functioning of the cloud infrastructure as well as to trigger alerts if and when required.
Of course third-party integrations are massively facilitated and you could integrate Clouding.io with CRMs, billing software, payment processors and whatnot.
What are the rate limits on the API?
Of course, to ensure the API isn’t spammed and is used fairly by all parties, Clouding.io has a rate limit on the API.
It allows 100 requests/minute or 6,000 requests/hour. Do note that it may be increase/decreased/nullified in the future. Hence, make sure to verify the current limit before using the API on your final production.
Do note that it doesn’t yet support private networks. Hence, the API can not be deployed on private cloud environments.
Well-documented (with “How to” guides)
A problem I’ve often faced with APIs is lack of documentation. Not all APIs are created equal. Having to kill your brains trying to understand them is just a pain.
That’s one problem you won’t face with the Clouding.io API. They’ve documented the API extremely well from the get-go. Each error code, authentication, response, actions and everything else has been listed and explained in detail.
There are even how-to guides that show us step by step how to get things done. While I do not doubt your technical know-how, I’m sure we all need a little hand-holding at times, don’t we?
Clouding.io brief walkthrough
If you went through our Clouding.io review, you already are well-acquainted with the platform. It’s basically a VPS provider that offers self-managed servers, flexible in resources, and billed by the hour.
The servers are located in Spain, a data & privacy-friendly nation. You do get complete customization options and can choose from over half a dozen OS, apps, Control Panels, etc.
You even get to manually set the exact RAM/space and other requirements so you only pay for exactly what you need.
Backups, snapshots, hourly-billed servers are some other primary features of the company. The company also has one of the most responsive and fast support teams you’ll ever see.
On my review of the servers, you’ll also find a few first-hand server tests. The ping-test as well as response-time test came out with flying colors.
The best part? It offers a 100% free trial! This gives you the most honest and transparent way to review the server on your own. Of course, you can opt for paid plans that start as low as EUR 3.00/month.
Conclusion- new Clouding.io API
So, does the API make our lives easier? That depends on what exactly you do with the API and what’s your job-description in the real-world.
If you’re a developer or sysadmin who needs to harness Clouding.io’s superpowers for their cloud projects, the API allows you to automate a lot of tasks, making your life easier and your time much more profitable.
