This ChangeMyIP review will discuss all the strengths and weaknesses of the proxy provider. If you need proxies to change your IP address for any reason, you’re at the right place.
ChangeMyIP offers nearly all existing types of proxies and dozens of locations to choose from.
You may be someone who simply wishes to access a blocked website, or someone who’s trying to get into a limited sale, the platform probably has a solution for you.
Of course, we do not believe what the company says. We will review the products and performance in this ChangeMyIP review and then form our opinion.
Let’s get started then.
Table of Contents
What is ChangeMyIP?
ChangeMyIP is a website that sells IP-changing and encryption solutions such as proxies, SOCKS5, VPNs etc. Both dedicated and shared proxies are available. Shadowsocks, DNS proxy, WireGuard are some of the other available variations of what it offers.
Depending on your requirements, you can choose the exact level of encryption, speed and location you need due to this diversity in products.
Available locations
The locations are extremely important when it comes to a proxy. It’s simply because the IP address literally controls your location and hence more location options mean more virtual locations for you.
We are not sure of the exact number, however, it does seem to offer over 100 locations. Just some of the available countries include:
- United States
- Spain
- Portugal
- Belgium
- Netherlands
- France
- Greece
- Germany and many others.
For each country, multiple regions may be available as well. Do note that not all the products are available for all the regions/countries.
My verdict: It offers almost all the locations you may want to connect to. There’s 0 complaints in terms of locations and hence I’ll rate this feature 5/5.
Multiple types of proxies available
ChangeMyIP understands that simply changing your IP address isn’t enough. Depending on your end-goal you can buy the following types of proxies from ChangeMyIP:
- ShadowSocks
- Trojan Proxies
- Wireguard VPN
- DNS proxies
- HTTP proxies
- Rotating Datacenter
- Shared HTTPs
- Shared SOCKS5
- Residential proxies
- Rotating mobile HTTP proxies
HTTP proxies
These are some of the most common types of proxies. When you are simply browsing the web and need decent security. Do note that they aren’t as anonymous as SOCKS5 and hence should only be used when anonymity isn’t your priority. Also, these are limited to HTTP traffic and are comparatively slower than SOCKS5.
You get both private and shared proxies. Private proxies are only used by you while shared are cheaper but used by other people. Shared proxies are also more easily detected and may be slower as compared to private options.
Do note that ChangeMyIP doesn’t offer HTTPS proxies, which despite sounding identical have pretty big differences.
SOCKS5
SOCKS5 is almost a direct alternative to using a HTTP proxy. It has its own pros and cons. On the plus side, it’s not limited just to HTTP traffic and can handle almost any protocol such as FTP, SMTP etc.
If speed and anonymity are what you seek, SOCKS5 is a much better option. Due to its multi-protocol support it can actually be faster than HTTP proxies as well.
The biggest advantage however is its security. SOCKS5 proxies do not log and can bypass a wider range of firewalls and security restrictions.
SOCKS5 is best when you’re using Torrents/P2P file sharing or trying to access content that other proxies have failed to access.
ShadowSocks
When you need to bypass even stronger firewalls (e.g. The Great Firewall of China) this comes in handy. It’s basically SOCKS5 on steroids. It can obfuscate your traffic making it look like normal internet traffic.
It’s also more secure and somewhat encrypted (with customizable settings) than traditional SOCKS5.
It’s considered very close to an actual VPN (in terms of what a user gets, not the actual technology). Of course, it’s still much less secure or feature-rich than the actual VPN but offers temporary, fast VPN-like benefits if that’s what you need.
DNS Proxies
If you’re a normal user, DNS proxies aren’t probably what you need. You can use these mostly to hide/mask DNS requests.
Of course, these too can hide your IP address, help you change locations and access geo-restricted content.
Rotating Mobile HTTP proxies [To be live soon]
This is a feature that’s not quite live currently but probably will be by the time you read this ChangeMyIP review.
If you need to imitate a “mobile” connection, these ChangeMyIP proxies are perfect. They’re sourced from actual mobile devices and are “rotating” IPs. Meaning, each session will give you a new IP address.
For now, these are available for 14 countries on the platform.
Trojan Proxies [To be live soon]
Trojan proxies are some of the most advanced, hidden and stealth proxies out there. They allow you to pretend to be someone else while granting access to even the most well-guarded online fortresses. This too is a feature that will be live in the very near future.
My verdict: So far, I’m more than happy with the types of proxies offered. The fact that I can choose between speed, security and encryption is why I’m rating its proxy-types a 5/5.
Residential and datacenter
ChangeMyIP offers datacenter options across almost all its proxy types. Meaning, you can choose what type of source you want your proxy to have. Of course, they both have their pros and cons.
Residential proxies look like originating from real computers and households. They’re much harder to detect or identify.
They add a layer of authenticity, legitimacy and harmlessness to your activities. The one downside is they’re generally slower than datacenter IPs. Due to their exclusivity, they’re also generally more expensive. If you need proxies for scraping or bypassing platforms that actively monitor proxy use, ChangeMyIP has you covered.
Datacenter IPs on the other hand offer a faster and cheaper proxy solution. If you’re simply browsing or wish to hide your real IP address, without any major proxy-detection worries, these are what you should go for. It can also be used to automate tasks which do not care about your IP address or proxy use much.
Rotating and static IPs
Another choice you get with ChangeMyIP proxies is between rotating or static IPs. Static IPs are exactly that- static. They do not change. Once you get an IP, you can use it for whatever term you’ve paid for.
This is perfect when you need to access IP-specific websites or platforms. E.g. most banks will flag you if you change your IP address constantly. This may also be true for your company website, some other premium subscription and so on.
The static IPs help you hide your real IP while also ensuring you can access these IP-specific platforms.
On the other hand, if you wish for a lot more privacy, rotating IPs got you covered. Each connection gets a new IP hence eliminating all traces of any previous use on the previous IP. While these aren’t the best solution for accessing IP-specific platforms, they do offer a ton more anonymity. If you need privacy, rotating IPs are the best.
My verdict: I can’t find a reason to strike off ratings considering how it offers me residential, static, rotating and datacenter IPs. Clearly a 5/5 feature.
WireGuard VPN
WireGuard is one of the latest, fastest and best VPN protocols to exist. For starters, it’s an encrypted protocol. Then, it’s faster than most of its predecessors ensuring a smooth browsing/streaming or even downloading speed.
The code for WireGuard is pretty lightweight so in laymen’s terms it translates into fewer resource consumption for users.
Many modern VPNs flaunt their support for WireGuard as a marketing strategy, that’s how good it is.
ChangeMyIP offers both normal as well as residential WireGuard connections.
My verdict: It’s almost my favourite protocol and hence seeing it here is another 5/5 feature for me.
ChangeMyIP Pricing plans
If you think the pricing plans or model of a product can’t be impressive, you’re wrong. I love ChangeMyIP’s flexibility and control that it offers when it comes to pricing.
So, there’s no fixed price. You can choose:
- The duration of your subscription
- And the number of proxies you need.
This ensures you only pay exactly for what you’re using. There are no mandatory time-frames or quantity forcing you to pay extra.
You can go as low as 1 proxy and 1 month, or as high as 100 proxies and 12 months. In fact, a slider lets you select the exact number of proxies you need making sure you aren’t forced into brackets.
The pricing plan is also affected by the type of proxy you’re going for. However, the cheapest it gets is $1.80 for 1 proxy, for 1 month if you pick the static datacenter IP.
My verdict: The diversity and flexibility in plans is why I’ll rate this 5/5.
ChangeMyIP payment modes
A major reason why you may need proxies is anonymity. Towards the same goals, ChangeMyIP actually lets you pay via Cryptocurrencies if you want. You can pay using dozens of Cryptocurrencies if you do not want a financial trail.
Of course, it also accepts fiat modes such as PayPal and credit cards.
My verdict: As it accepts both Crypto and fiats, I see no reason why it deserves any lower than 5/5.
ChangeMyIP Support
This is probably the only aspect that I feel could be improved on the platform. A live-chat exists, and yes it’s 24X7. However, most of the time I get connected to a bot. Connecting to a human requires some time.
It may be due to a difference in office-hours though.
My verdict: A faster support team would be better, for now I’ll rate it 3/5.df
Acceptable Use Policy (AUP)
ChangeMyIP IPs can be used only for “legal” purposes. It’s clearly stated in its ToS that using the IPs for anything that’s illegal, either within your jurisdiction or the jurisdiction of the website are not supported or endorsed.
Conclusion
That’s all for this ChangeMyIP review folks. I hope you now know the strengths and weaknesses that the platform comes with?
On the plus side, there’s the very diverse proxy-type, almost 100 locations and flexible pricing plan. On the not-so-bright side, the somewhat slow support needs an improvement.
Overall, I’ll say if you need proxies either for harmless purposes such as streaming videos, or for slightly more serious purposes such as buying sneakers, ChangeMyIP will not disappoint.
It’s anonymous, fast, options-rich and definitely deserves a 4/5 overall rating.
