- AweEraser Review: Is it the best data erasure software?
Do you even need data eraser software?
Yes, you do, everyone does, period.
If you think deleting files from your system and emptying the recycle bin does it, you’re wrong!
If that’s true, file recovery software wouldn’t exist. The law agencies wouldn’t have been able to recover data once the criminal deletes it!
When you delete something, just its earmark/bookmark/ “location indicator” is deleted from your system.
In other words, your system “shows” to you that the space is now available to be used.
However, the files still remain there.
I’m not talking of fragmented or partial files. Rather, these are fully accessible files in perfect conditions.
They’re only permanently deleted when they’re overwritten. (It’s not always this simple, but this sure is the simplest explanation to it).
These data eraser software specializing in deleting these files beyond recovery.
So, if you’ve ever deleted anything and want that thing to stay gone, you do need a data erasure software.
What is AweEraser?
I’m confident you’ve figured it out, this is a data erasure software. It lets you delete any and all data beyond recovery.
AweEraser claims it’s the best. I don’t believe the claims, any claims unless I try a product out.
So, here’s me activating the premium version of the software.
This proves to you that this review is scribbled after I’ve personally tested the product out.
On top of erasing data, the tool also includes free:
- Disk tools
- Internet Cleaner
- And an Uninstaller.
Now, let’s get you a better understanding of the software and its capabilities?
User-Interface
Here, I’ll just discuss how and who can use AweEraser. Does it require special skills? Can very basic users understand the software? We’ll see.
So, here’s the screen you see when you launch the software:
Right off the bat, I’ll say it looks pretty neat, modern and clean. Don’t you agree?
On the left, you can see all the available features. (I’ve discussed each of these in detail in the later sections).
The right-pane shows you the file/folders. You can browse to the exact file you wish to delete.
At the bottom centre, you can see the “Erase” button. Clicking on it erases your files permanently.
Was that hard? I don’t think so! In fact, I’ll say that was easier than using Facebook or Instagram, wasn’t it?
Let’s discuss the features in detail then?
Erase Individual Files
This is the first feature that you see on the software.
It’s pretty simple and straightforward. You permanently erase files or folders using this feature.
Erase Hard Drive
As the name suggests, this feature lets you erase entire Hard Disks.
In other words, you can’t select individual files/folders here. Any and everything that existed on your disk will be erased.
Erase Free Space
This is actually my favourite.
Suppose you deleted files weeks or months ago, before installing AweEraser.
As explained earlier, those files probably still exist on your disk.
You can’t re-delete them using the software because you can’t select them now, right?
That’s where this feature comes to the rescue.
It lets us delete “free space” which is technically occupied by your previously deleted files.
In other words, using this feature you can be sure that your previously deleted files can’t be recovered in the future.
Disk Tools
This is actually an additional feature which AweEraser offers for free. It’s not exactly a “file delete” feature.
Rather, it helps fix Hard Disk issues. You can use it on both internal as well as external disks. It primarily finds logical errors and helps fix them.
You can also “format” your disks using the feature.
Internet Cleaner
Okay, being honest, this isn’t the most unique, special, “never before” feature out there.
But then, it’s free. And it bundles up all the garbage data (history, cookies, cache etc.) and cleans them up in a single click.
Uninstaller
Okay, I’m sure you know what this one does.
It lets us uninstall applications from the system. But then, the in-built uninstaller does exactly that, right? Not exactly.
The AweEraser uninstaller installs not just the applications, but also any associated files with the apps. This doesn’t always happen with the in-built uninstaller.
Although, I personally use it more for bulk uninstalls. It lets me choose multiple apps and get rid of them in a single click.
Detailed history
When you’re on a mass deletion spree, you may forget things, right?
You deleted file X, but an hour later you aren’t sure if you really did.
To help with that, AweEraser offers detailed reports. It maintains a list of files that were deleted from your system.
Moreover, you can even export this list to a .html document.
5 different data sanitation algorithms
If erasing data was as simple as “overwriting”, you can me could’ve done it. It isn’t.
Over time, various secret agencies, defence forces and individuals have developed data eraser algorithms that get the job done.
These are the algorithms AweEraser uses. You actually get to choose the exact algorithm for your needs:
Do note that it’s optional. Even if you don’t know what these are, the software automatically picks an algorithm and deletes your data. Every single one of these deletes data beyond recovery.
- HMG Infosec Standard 5 (1 pass): This algorithm is literally used by British Intelligence (read “James Bond”) for erasing data.
- DoD 5220.22-M ECE: As the name suggests, this was first published by the U.S Department of Defence, a credible source, right?
- Peter Gutmann’s algorithm 35: The 35 is special because it overwrites random values, 35 times!
- S. Army AR380-19 (3 passes): First mentioned in the 380-19 Army Regulations, it first overwrites data using a random character, then uses a specific character and verifies its writes!
- Peter Gutmann’s algorithm 2 (2 passes): Another algorithm by Gutmann.
AweEraser pricing plans and refund policy
It’s free, period.
Well yes, you can delete 20 files/folder absolutely free.
If after that you feel the software is worth your time, you can opt for one of its paid plans.
- 1-month license: $9.95/month
- 1-year license: $29.95/year
- One-time license: $39.95 (this is a one-time payment, you get to use the software forever).
The software offers 100% free upgrades as long as you hold your license.
There’s even a 30-day money-back guarantee. The company refunds 100% of your funds if you don’t think it’s for you.
If you ask me, the free version + the 30-day refund policy is a pretty confident statement, isn’t it?

AweEraser Review: Is it the best data erasure software?
It may or may not be the “best”. I’ve obviously not used every single software on the planet.
However, as far as data erasing goes, it’s pretty impressive. It’s extremely easy to use, lets you choose the deletion algorithm, and even has 3 different modes to choose from.
Hey, why trust this AweEraser review? The tool offers a free trial anyway, go try it out. Even with the paid versions, you’ve got a refund policy for 30 days. Nothing to lose, right
